SCOPE OF SERVICES
When this client chose Wasatch to provide a complete electrical installation for its new stadium, the company responded by applying its considerable complex systems expertise and delivering a sophisticated high-performance electrical systems solution. In addition to an extensive duct bank system, the company mounted over 390 sports lighting fixtures on a 110-foot-high catwalk to meet television broadcasting’s demanding light level criteria.
The installation was made especially challenging by the tight space available on the catwalk and by the need to mold exposed conduit to the steel structures that support the stadium canopy and catwalks. The company also satisfied this massive project’s complex power requirements by putting in four separate services, two 3,000-amp and two 1,500-amp. In addition, the company installed a complete backup power system and all low-voltage services, including teledata, CCTV, security, and fire alarm.
During construction, Wasatch successfully dealt with a number of difficult project issues, including the unique architectural design of the stadium, a schedule that started three months late and ended one month early, and what many felt was the worst Utah winter in a decade. In spite of these obstacles, Wasatch met numerous interim milestone dates and completed the project on time. In all, the company expended 68,000 man-hours without a lost-time accident.
The Real Soccer Stadium is a 20,000-seat facility spread over 12 acres. Opened in October 2008, Rio Tinto Stadium is a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment facility that provides a stunning new home for the ReAl Salt Lake major league soccer team. The stadium has been designed to attract a wide array of events that would probably not otherwise occur in Utah, strengthening the state’s reputation as an international sporting destination. These types of events will bring significant media attention to the state, positively impact tourism, and perhaps most importantly, help create numerous permanent and seasonal job opportunities.
