SCOPE OF SERVICES
Because of this project’s size and challenging requirements, this client looked for a company with extensive electrical expertise, a tradition of teamwork, and an ability to apply innovative strategies to get a job done. Those capabilities made Wasatch an obvious choice. Wasatch’s scope of work included all interior and exterior electrical rough and trim, along with an impressive power distribution system, including a 1400 kilowatt emergency generator and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Power distribution was both commercial with remote panels and residential with panels inside the residences. In addition, Wasatch provided an energy-saving Lutron lighting and dimming system, telephone and data backbone cabling and conduit, and integrated security and access systems. The company also designed and put in a leading-edge fire alarm and smoke control system.
At 8,400 feet above sea level, this project presented a number of challenges. Work was hampered by extreme weather conditions during and after the record-setting storms of three winters. The task of transporting men and materials to a remote location posed logistical obstacles. Furthermore, since the electrical infrastructure needed to be significantly enhanced to support the impressive 12,000 amp electrical service, the company had to coordinate extensively with local utilities. And the sparse staging area and limited workspace available for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems required careful planning with the design team and other trades, as well as 3-D modeling for all electrical systems.
In the midst of these challenges, it could have been difficult to make informed management decisions while maintaining control of the budget, which had been developed from schematic information. But Wasatch’s innovative approach to cost control allowed the owner to constantly monitor and update budget numbers in a detailed open-book format. This real-time budget information enabled the owner to make informed design modification and budget assessments throughout the project.
By combining a flexible project delivery approach with an innovative cost management strategy, Wasatch successfully completed this project on time and within budget.
